We reiterate our support for the Palestinian people and we join the call for respect for human rights
As a human rights organization that defends a global justice system, we cannot but denounce the colonialism and occupation to which Palestine is subjected
From the DESCA Observatory we want to join the shows of support for the Palestinian people and reiterate the flagrant violation of rights to which they are subjected. As a human rights organization that defends a global justice system, we cannot but denounce the colonialism and occupation that Palestine has been subjected to for decades and the violence that is exercised daily against its population.
As the Secretary General of the United Nations has expressed, referring to the crimes committed by Hamas against the Israeli civilian population this weekend, "this violence does not come out of nowhere, but from 56 years of occupation and a lack of political outlet". We join the call to stop the indiscriminate attacks against the civilian population and to redouble efforts to comply with international human rights standards and a dialogued political process that can eventually bring peace.
The United Nations has condemned on dozens of occasions Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory, with illegal settlements and breaches of international humanitarian law. In addition, human rights organizations such as Al Haq have been repressed and persecuted.
For its part, the European Union has not been up to the situation and we consider its recent position and a shameful confusion about the freezing of humanitarian aid to be absolutely inappropriate. The Gaza Strip survives in terrible humanitarian conditions, without access to the minimum services necessary to live, in a clear apartheid situation.
For all this, we are joining the call of the solidarity movement with Palestine tomorrow, October 11, in Barcelona in front of the headquarters of the European Union at 7 p.m.
